Columbus Globe by Paul Oestergaard, 1950s.
The king of globes , this handmade globe designed by Paul Oestergaard and manufactured by Columbus Globe in Germany in the mid-fifties, is a true jewel.
WOW, finally, after a four-year search, we have managed to acquire our favorite globe. We are therefore extremely proud to present this magnificent piece to you.
The illuminated floor globe is made of crystal glass , hand-blown and entirely handcrafted . This model is a remarkable masterpiece of traditional globe production. The production of a large, hand-blown crystal glass globe is a true challenge, which can be overcome by only a handful of glass artists worldwide.
Therefore, it takes many days before the carefully selected materials can be transformed into a cartographic and optical masterpiece, requiring much experience, skill, and passion. The cartography is handwritten , a technique passed down from generation to generation and mastered only by Columbus .
The passion and craftsmanship required to produce this model, together with its stately size, great simplicity, elegant form, and extraordinary quality, make it something very special. Unique and impossible to imitate.
The DUO illuminated globe is the king of globes, and the cartography is luxurious accordingly. The relief is applied in twenty-four separate steps , giving the world its own depth and radiance. The illuminated globe displays the physical map in vivid and harmonious colors, complemented by an impressive amount of interesting and up-to-date information.
When the light is on, the sphere shows the physical environment of the world . Without the light, the political map appears. It is precisely this subtle interplay between light, knowledge, and craftsmanship that gives this object its irresistible charm.
More than a globe, this is an object with an almost museum-like presence . A piece that not only enriches an interior but also evokes wonder. For lovers of design, craftsmanship, and world history, this is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful pieces one could wish for.
A very exceptional piece.
