Rare Louis Vuitton trunk, 1896
By the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Louis Vuitton had established himself as an industry leader in suitcase making and needed to distinguish his now famous brand from its followers and competitors.
They decided to come up with a logo, a monogram, which was indeed the famous and highly recognizable print we know so well today. The very first series was only made about six years ago and the print was woven into the canvas.
This example dates from around 1896 and is a perfect example of such cases . With its steel cladding, brass studs and lock, it still displays the same elegance as over 100 years ago and is a testament to the durability of the best trunk maker in the world. Today it is a beautiful piece of interior object, both decorative and useful.
