Set of large Guerlain perfume bottles
Since its founding by Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain, the company has marketed more than 1,100 fragrances. Guerlain made a name for himself with his Eau de Cologne Impériale (1853), which he created for the wedding of Empress Eugénie and Napoleon III.
Mitsouko (1919) was Charlie Chaplin's favorite perfume, while Shalimar in 1925 was Rita Hayworth's. Shalimar , inspired by the (love) history of patrons Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, is a classic perfume that is still being produced. Brigitte Bardot and Bianca Jagger, among others, wore it. Shalimar is the name of gardens built by the moguls.
Guerlain became part of the LVMH group in 1994. In 2017, Guerlain opened its own perfume boutique for the first time outside France, on Avenue Louise in Brussels.
