This exceptional console is the result of a unique artistic collaboration between Italian architect and designer Massimo Papiri and sculptor Romeo Tamanti. Designed around 1970 and for many years the showpiece in Papiri's own home, this piece of furniture is a rare example of the perfect symbiosis between functional design and autonomous art.
The console consists of a solid, transparent plexiglass structure that, instead of resting on legs, seems to float, supported by a monumental bronze torso. This torso, an anatomically powerful male figure sculpted by Tamanti, functions not only as a sculptural centrepiece, but also as a supporting element. The effect is dramatic and refined: the transparent volume seems to hang weightlessly in space, in perfect balance between strength and lightness.
With its impressive dimensions (260 x 51 x 80 cm), this console is not only a functional element, but a true museum-worthy masterpiece. Only one copy of this console exists . The piece embodies Papiri's architectural radicality and his refined sense of composition, combined with Tamanti's sculptural virtuosity. It is a rare example of how art and design can reinforce each other to create something timeless and sublime.
Until his death, this console was in the private home of Massimo Papiri, a key figure in Italian postmodernism.
