About the item
This set of four black Tulip Chairs by Eero Saarinen for Knoll forms a particularly elegant and harmonious ensemble. The sculptural shell and central base give the chairs a light, refined appearance. In black, they also acquire a powerful, almost architectural presence.
About design and history
Saarinen designed the Tulip Chair in 1956 as part of his Pedestal Collection. His goal was to eliminate the visual clutter of traditional chair legs around a table. The central base and flowing lines created an entirely new silhouette that became an icon of modernism. The chairs are swivel chairs and retain their original seat cushions.
About the designer and maker
